Summer Game Fest 2026 has been absolutely stacked for JRPG fans! After the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII trilogy was announced earlier at SGF Live, Atlus just dropped a massive surprise during their Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th — Persona 6 is officially in development! The teaser that came out barely teases; aside from implying quite the dark tone (yay), we don't have much to go on yet. No release date or window has been announced, though Atlus confirmed it will be coming across PS5, Xbox, and PC whenever ready — and I'm genuinely hyped for all three of those platforms seeing a true Persona experience simultaneously!
The teaser describes P6 as "a bold, new standalone story blending heartfelt daily life and new characters with pulse-pounding, supernatural adventure," which is pretty much the quintessential Persona pitch. But here's what makes me even more optimistic: while this marks their first *all-new* mainline entry since 2017 (P5 was '16), Atlus has been incredibly busy behind the scenes. They shipped the gorgeous enhanced version of P5 Royal in 2022, released a stunning remake of Persona 3, and let longtime director Katsura Hashino build up some serious creative steam with *Metaphor: ReFantazio* back in 2024 — so he's coming into this refreshed! And if you can't wait that long for the new entry, Atlus has also announced *Persona 4 Revival*, launching specifically on February 18th. The teaser was pure gold even though it barely showed anything — I'm already dreaming about how they'll subvert our expectations after all these years of waiting!
