Hey everyone! If you've been following my recent Citizen Sleeper rants (yes, I wrote a whole thing about it last summer), the news just got even better โ Gareth Damian Martin and Jump Over The Age are bringing both *Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector* AND its original predecessor to Nintendo Switch 2 this month with fully fleshed-out "Nintendo Switch 2 Editions," launching on June 25th. Pre-orders go live today in the eShop, but here's where it gets even sweeter โ if you already own either game on a regular Switch (I'm looking at you, me), the upgrade is COMPLETELY FREE, which I consider one of those rare moments when Nintendo actually treats owners well. These new editions aren't just flogged assets though: both games get improved resolution pushing 4K docked and 1080p in handheld mode along with a smooth 60fps bump, so they're finally playing as polished as that excellent writing deserves to be โ it's rare for an RPG-inspired narrative game to look this crisp without compromising its charming hand-drawn aesthetic.
What I keep coming back to is why *Starward Vector* won places on my own and dozens of other GOTY lists last year: these games are inspired by tabletop role-playing where your key decisions actually live or die on the roll of a dice, creating some genuinely tense set pieces amid wonderfully drawn characters in an incredibly atmospheric space setting. The writing is top-tier โ possibly some of the best we've had in recent memory across both installments โ and with all those branching paths you mentioned earlier when I complained about my third playthrough still uncovering new routes, jumping back into these on Switch 2 honestly feels warranted rather than like a cheap cash grab (unlike certain other franchises who seem to release "Switch Editions" monthly now). And get this: Fellow Traveller โ Jump Over The Age's publishing label that handled the original *Citizen Sleeper* before Gareth Damian Martin took over direction โ also just teased at nintendolife.com that they'll reveal their next game entirely, and since all three of their last releases have made it to Nintendo consoles (including both of these Citizen Sleeper games), I'm cautiously optimistic we could see this mysterious new project land on Switch 2 as well.
