Dragon's Dogma 2 launched with pretty dire framerate issues on PS5 in 2024, which meant porting it to an even weaker Nintendo console raised massive red flags for everyone โ how could we expect anything at all? Then producer Naoto Oyama spoke to Eurogamer and basically answered every fear the community had. He's actually been optimizing this specific build specifically for Switch 2 rather than just porting the PS5 version over, which is a huge difference in approach. They aren't trying to cut corners and get it out; they are building a native experience.
Capcom attributes much of this success to their proprietary RE Engine, which has already powered titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. Because so many different teams use the same engine, they can share expertise across divisions to refine features and performance constantly for new launches โ Oyama-san called it a "really positive cycle" that helps them deliver high-quality ports regularly. The game is slated to launch on October 9th and already holds a minimum of 30 frames per second in every scene, often hitting much higher in less demanding moments.
