You guys have to hear how absurd this World of Warcraft thing is, because I'm already half-mad at the concept alone! The game has a grappling hook mechanic that exists in only one zoneโMists of Pandaria content brought back for The War Within expansion โyet it permanently occupies a hotkey and an action bar slot. This means players are forced to waste valuable UI real estate on a move they'll use maybe five times, which is the kind of design decision I would pay good money to see mocked on TV. They even had to add a separate tooltip just explaining that you don't need to bind it manually, which is basically Blizzard admitting this was a bad call. The craziest part is it has been this way since 2012 and the community has only spoken up about it in isolated outbursts over the years.
But here is why I'm actually excited: they're finally looking into fixing it after Discord feedback forced their hand! They've proposed making the grappling hook a togglable ability that you can activate once and no longer need to bind โit would sit off your main action bars entirely, which would be massive for inventory management. Some people are even asking them to make it a contextual cast so it fires automatically when you point at a wall, which I honestly love because why shouldn't the game do that? The plan is still preliminary and not guaranteed, but getting an official response about removing something this pervasive from every player's UI is a win. Blame on Blizzard for making it happen in the first place though โI won't pretend to be happier than anyone else right now!
