You guys seriously need this on your radar because Dragon Quest XI S is officially coming to the Switch 2 this September as a Definitive Edition with two modes โ Performance Priority at 1080p/60fps and Quality Priority pushing all the way to 1440p! The game content itself stays exactly the same across both versions since only rendering specs change based on the new hardware, which is awesome because DQ already has one of the most gorgeous worlds in RPG history. Playing it at 30fps at native 1440p will make those lighting effects and character designs pop in a way we haven't seen before โ Nintendo's power finally doing something for this classic!
There is a real catch though, because Square Enix already confirmed there is NO plan to sell an upgrade pack to the Switch version owners either. Your existing save data won't be compatible with the new edition and you can't transfer anything between versions at all โ so if you've played it on original hardware you'll basically have to decide whether to keep your copy or start fresh this fall. It feels a bit cold for long-time fans but hey, they are already positioning this as something exclusive to the new system and I can't blame them; DQ XI has earned its 'definitive edition' treatment more than almost any other game in recent years!
I was actually digging through older news about when it first landed on Switch back in 2019 โ they were promising you a port that would improve visuals over the PS3/4 original and now here we are again with another upgraded release. It just shows how timeless this title is, because every couple of years there's new hardware and people keep wanting to play it better than before! If anyone still hasn't played DQ XI S I cannot recommend you enough โ even if the upgrade news is a double-edged sword for old owners, the game itself remains one of my all-time favorites.
