I'm not gonna lieโthis news hit me like a Viking axe in the chest. After four years of pure, unadulterated content from Iron Gate (since November 2019!) they're bumping the price by roughly 50% when Valheim hits version 1.0! That moves it from about $27 on Steam up to nearly $40 โ and yeah, I know what you're thinking: that's already steep for one game, and now they want more? The team says this is how they monetize after years of free content updates, but the community isn't exactly thrilled. Some fans are calling it a slap in the face after so much goodwill built up over time; others say "hey, I love Valheim, I'll pay for what you build." It's one of those situations where everyone hates that they're doing it and no one can agree on whether it's fair or not โ which is exactly why this discussion thread needs to exist.
But hereโs the thing: if you're going to drive up the price, deliver something worth paying for, right? At version 1.0 we get new endgame bosses, overhauled lighting with Vulkan support and a fresh shader pass, an improved texture atlas that will make every biome pop, refined enemy spawns across the board, and even brand-new world gen options โ all genuinely good stuff! The ocean is the only exception: no changes are coming to it at launch, which honestly should have been their first move. They know people hate how it looks, yet they're leaving it untouched while raising prices. On a silver lining note though โ official Steam Deck support is confirmed, and that alone is worth the extra cash for anyone on the go! I'm conflicted because Valkstjarna has made me one of their biggest fans but... yeah, I could live with an ocean patch instead of the price hike. What do you guys think? Is this a fair trade or should they drop the price until the ocean is fixed?
