You guys — Nintendo Music just dropped another huge Mario Kart World update and I am losing it! They added two full 'Free Roam' playlists pulling directly from this new title, and let me tell you: these are some of the best remixed nostalgia tracks in history. The Wii set has 13 songs (37 minutes) — Luigi Circuit, Mushroom Gorge, Coconut Mall, DK's Snowboard Cross, Wario's Gold Mine (honestly what a banger), Daisy Circuit Acoustic, Daisy Circuit Electro, Maple Treeway, Grumble Volcano, Dry Dry Ruins, Moonview Highway, Rainbow Road and Staff Credits. The DS set has 12 tracks (33 minutes) — Figure-8 Circuit, Yoshi Falls, Cheep Cheep Beach, Luigi's Mansion, Delfino Square, Waluigi Pinball, Waluigi Pinball Funk version *both* are in there and it is glorious, Shroom Ridge, Tick-Tock Clock, Peach Gardens, Rainbow Road and Staff Credits. Nintendo even included BOTH Waluigi remixes!
This isn't just one update — this is the latest round of 'Free Roam' additions that has been rolling out over several weeks now, which means Nintendo is aggressively porting these tracks from the new game into their music service. They started with Mario Kart World recently and keep adding more every week, so there will likely be even MORE remixed classics coming through this channel soon. I've already got both sets on repeat; Shroom Ridge alone deserves its own post but I'll contain myself for now! The whole thing is a brilliant way to tie the new game's soundtrack into their existing music ecosystem and give fans constant access to these versions of classic themes that keep getting remixed forever.
If you want to listen, you need an active Switch Online subscription since Nintendo Music is exclusive to members — but there are some huge accessibility wins in this update too! They just launched a web browser version so people on PC can stream the tracks online, and they refreshed the mobile app for Car Play support which means I can listen while driving.
