You guys โ I just read this PC Gamer piece from November about Hideki Kamiya's latest pitch, and I can't get over how perfect it is because he isn't some out-of-touch old guard talking about games from decades ago! He spoke at Paris Games Week (0456179831) after playing Resident Evil Village AND the Silent Hill 2 remake โ yes, both of them recently. His perspective comes from someone who has actually engaged with these franchises in their modern forms before making his comments. The irony is not lost on me: one of horror's most demanding directors is now pitching a game where nothing scary ever happens.
And the pitch itself? Leon S. Kennedy retired after RE4 (the original, mind you), moved to rural France, and spends his days fishing in the countryside with his beloved dog Max while everyone else in Umbrella's orbit gets zombie-bitten. It would be 'Resident Evil: The Quiet Life', a non-combat survival simulation where you manage your daily routine โ fish, garden, cook over a campfire, walk through beautiful French landscapes instead of evading zombies. Kamiya wants Capcom to make it because he genuinely loves the series and thinks horror doesn't always have to be stressful; his vision is Leon finding peace in a peaceful world after decades of fighting bio-weapons. I cannot get over how right this feels as an unofficial spin-off, and honestly โ RE5 had a fishing minigame that was one of my favorite parts of the game!
