PlayStation's State of Play just wrapped up on June 2nd at 5PM ETβand wow, was it the event Sony needed! In an hourlong showcase that opened and closed strongly around premium single-player games (a strategic pivot back from their costly live-service stumbles), they unveiled some truly jaw-dropping reveals across both established franchises and brand-new IPs. The show kicked off with a seven-minute Wolverine gameplay deep dive from Insomniac Gamesβthe Spider-Man developers' new superhero title showing Logan slicing through enemies, even teaming up briefly with Jean Grey to take down captured mutantsβset for September release on PS5 (and it looks absolutely gorgeous in action). But the real head-spinning moment came as Sony closed the show by teasing God of War Laufey from Santa Monica Studio: we're finally leaving Kratos behind and taking control of Faye/Laufey this time around, with notably more aerobatic gameplay punctuated by magic rather than pure heavy-hitting violenceβand yes, there's a GIANT six-legged cat that can fly. Oh, and apparently Phranque is now available as a companion (a talking gelatinous cube who fights alongside youβyes really). Remedy also dropped the Control Resonant trailer confirming a September 24th launch in 2026 with Dylan Faden back as our sole playable protagonist while Jesse shapes his journey. The live-service experiments may have cost Sony dearly, but if this new wave of narrative-driven games lands on time and delivers that classic PlayStation magic (like their Ratchet & Clank legacy), we might just be looking at the brand's long-awaited comeback moment!
