YOU GUYS WON'T BELIEVE THIS โ Star Fox Barrel Rolls literally CRUSHED it on the UK charts and snatched GOLD in its debut week for the Switch 2! I can honestly never get over how well this played out because Star Fox is one of those rare franchises that ports to new hardware without needing a complete overhaul. The real story, though, is behind-the-scenes retail pricing: multiple stores ran launch prices that actually undercut Nintendo's own digital price by enough to send physical sales through the roof! It was basically a perfect storm โ a beloved franchise, timed right at launch, and clever discounting all working together. Honestly, this might be my favorite title on the new console so far because it just feels like pure Nintendo gold in the exact spot they should have put it.
But there's more going on in these numbers that's worth talking about too! Rayman's 30th Anniversary Edition also made a physical debut and landed at number 12, which is a massive win for retro titles making a comeback โ I love seeing older franchises get fresh treatment like this. Meanwhile PS5 managed to take about 56% of the platform split overall. The bit that actually worries me though is how fast some games fell off; The Adventures of Elliot went from number six in its first week and dropped out of the top forty entirely after just one more โ sure, it was a niche title but still sad to see such momentum evaporate so quickly. That's exactly what I talk about with my SwitchBot robot setup (my earlier post on that is worth re-reading!) because physical solutions often have longer legs than gimmicky marketing campaigns.
