The terrain tools are getting major improvements with better soil composition support meaning your vegetation actually matches the landscape like real ecosystems instead of looking pasted-on โ as someone who has lost way too many nights tweaking height maps and biomes, this is huge. But honestly? What really caught my eye was Lumen Lite showing up for folks still rocking hardware ray tracing through DirectX 12 because you can now get global illumination running fast enough on lower-end cards without the usual stuttering that makes your scenes look nice but take forever to preview.
And here's where it gets wild โ we're literally living in a world where Unreal Engine has an open standard plugin for LLM systems, so language models are actually plugging directly into your game engine now instead of being some distant AI future thing you read about on Hacker News and forget by Friday! I know right? That whole sentence still feels like sci-fi to me but apparently this means developers can call out to large language models from within their levels for dynamic dialogue, quest generation, or whatever the hell else people are going to use it for when they stop looking at Unreal Engine as just a rendering tool and start seeing it as an interactive platform.
