Listen, I'm revising my earlier Hellraiser comment because that version didn't do it justice โ this is way more interesting than "the horniest horror game ever made." Sledgehammer Games is building something actually cohesive out of Clive Barkerโs Cenomitary obsession, and the gameplay loop they're designing is genuinely clever. It's a third-person survival horror with a combat system that lets you fight back instead of just dying instantly โ which makes sense for Hellraiser where escape isn't always an option. The lighting gimmick alone deserves its own discussion: you carry a glowing puzzle box that illuminates the immediate area while plunging everything beyond it into darkness, so every shadow feels dangerous and every light source is precious. That kind of atmospheric design takes survival horror back to Silent Hill levels of tension without needing cheap jump scares.
The production pedigree tells me they get what makes this IP work. They're drawing directly from the films AND Barker's books (so we'll see actual Lamentis lore, not just generic Cenobite costumes), and Mick GORDON scored it โ yes, the Doom composer. You can already imagine how that plays out during a chase sequence. It drops Fall 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S; base edition $39.99 with Gold at $45 and an expected Collector's around $50 for those who want to own the physical box. The trailer ended with that chilling line: "You will not be able to close your eyes," which is peak Cenobium branding โ this has layers beyond my original post, I promise you.
