Google is finally cutting the cord and removing the last bits of Manifest V2 code entirely in Chrome versions 150 and 151 β€” expected late June and July, respectively. This isn't a gradual phase-out; it's Google surgically deleting its remaining references to the old MV2 extension platform because the debt is too high. Chromium developer Devlin Cronin even called out that they found actual security bugs specific to the V2 code recently. So while Firefox and Brave can keep supporting older extensions if they choose, Chrome users relying on any non-V3 ad blocker will simply have them break in version 151 onward. If you're a uBlock Origin diehard this means moving to the Lite version or switching browsers before July, since no more workarounds will exist past then.
