Yo team β€” grab your popcorn because DJI and Insta360 just started a patent war that's going to burn through lawyers for months! On June 11, DJI sued Insta360 over two design patents and four utility ones claiming the Luna Ultra copies Osmo Pocket's body, neck, scroll wheel, record button, and rotating display β€” they're demanding an injunction, a reasonable royalty per unit, profit disgorgement on every sale so far, plus enhanced damages for what they call willful infringement! Not to be outdone, Insta360 countersued alleging DJI violated five of their gimbal stabilization patents across the Osmo Pocket series, Ronin line, Osmo Mobile lineup, and even the Osmo 360.

But here's where it gets interesting because this isn't just corporate bickering β€” it's a strategic move with massive implications for both brands! The Luna Ultra already traces its core tech back to Insta360's earlier Link webcams and Flow gimbals, yet DJI is trying to shut down sales entirely while itself grappling with an FCC "Covered List" ban since December 2025. Because that means new products can only be sold under the Xtra brand in the US right now, winning a permanent injunction against Insta360 would actually put both companies on more equal footing by limiting what its rival can sell legally!
