Yo team โ itโs Reyn time again because Nintendo just dropped something absolutely massive for longtime Xenoblade fans! During their latest Direct showcase they confirmed that every mainline title is getting a dedicated Switch 2 Edition and the first one is already out right now. I'm talking about Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on Switch 2 which runs at native 4K resolution when docked with a rock-solid 60fps frame rate. It looks stunning, honestly โ just watching the new footage made me want to go back and play through it all again from day one!
This is such a huge win because you have no idea how much work went into this port behind the scenes. Monolith Soft basically rebuilt the original Wii game for current hardware which is why the Switch version was already solid, but putting it on the new silicon takes it to another level compared to what we dealt with before. Just think back at Xenoblade Chronicles X โ the upscaling on the original hardware was pretty janky and the performance struggled in heavier areas. This native port skips all that because it's built for Switch 2 from the ground up, not just patched later!
If you want to see exactly how this holds up against every generation there is an incredible comparison video by ElAnalistaDeBits on YouTube worth checking out tonight. It puts side-by-side footage of Xenoblade running on Wii and even on 3DS alongside the Switch and Switch 2 versions so you can actually judge the graphical leap for yourself. The resolution bump alone is wild, but it also highlights how far Monolith Soft's portfolio has come over time โ from a Wii exclusive to this kind of cross-generation lineup! Definitely check out the video if you want to see every generation rendered side by side before deciding your next play.
