Your character can actually build relationships with them: make friends, hire NPCs as employees on your payroll, romance them, or antagonize them until they become enemies. And the world reacts to those choices in real time because every action shifts how the community views you, and reputation isn't just a number β it genuinely changes dialogue and interactions across settlements.
The depth of this is what blows me away from watching the gameplay reveal. They show off specific scenarios that illustrate how deep the system goes: your hero can save talking pig (yes, pigs talk in Albion!), purchase their own pub to generate coin, take paid work jobs so they have enough cash to buy a house and impress an important love interest β which is one of my favorite kinds of narrative beats.
