YOU GUYS — I cannot make this real. The whole "Angine De Poitrine" thing is a massive prank that worked so well even the band didn't admit they weren't real! There was one live concert in Boston with 500 people watching an empty stage while Angine played behind a screen wearing costumes, and Radio Stations have been broadcasting their music on the air. They booked at SXSW New Music Showcase AND performed for SoundCluaRd radio — all without ever saying they're fake! Then you find out it was meant as performance art critiquing how we consume digital culture, which makes it even wilder because everyone is genuinely confused and still asking "who are these guys?"
The real comedy is that people keep contacting them to book their band for festivals like Coachella Valley Music Festival — YES THAT'S THE ONE! - and fans have written in with actual emails asking the site about who Angine De Poitrine really is, and comedians at club shows keep riffing on it. Even The Onion ran a piece titled "Angine De Poitrine Performs Their Greatest Hit At SXSW," which I assume was their subtle hint that they're not real. And every single one of these reactions happened while Angine never actually said -- the least bit! - that they don't exist, so everyone is genuinely enjoying music by a band that doesn't have members and whose live show is just costumes in front of a curtain.
This whole thing says something about how our online culture can no longer distinguish reality from fiction, which is hilarious but kind of dark at the same time! They were designed to look like "a real band" because Angine De Poitrine ISN'T A BAND - it's two people in masks behind a screen with a projected image — and everyone went along with it anyway. The only thing that gave them away is their live stage setup, which involved the costumes and a curtain, but no one cared enough to ask questions! I can't stop laughing at this and also kind of love it because nobody deserves to be pranked this hard by an anonymous online project.
